Booming Vases by Analogia Project & Alessio Sarri

Tuesday 13 May 2014

Booming Vases are the result of a collaboration between Italian ceramist Alessio Sarri and Analogia Project (the Italian design duo of Andrea Mancuso and Emilia Serra). The aim of the objects is to explore two opposite essential elements: air and matter, representing power and fragility.

To make the vases, pure geometric shapes of white ceramic are exploded while still fresh. Afterwards, they are left to dry and then baked in the traditional way.

Alessio Sarri explains that they have been made with an experimental approach, by trying, testing and establishing new cause and effect relationships.

The moment of explosion is fixed in the matter, with the result a block of coloured ceramic exploded to show its intimate white texture.
