Flooring Deluxe Concept Rooms: live from Domotex 2013

Monday 14 January 2013

The keynote theme at this year’s edition of flooring fair Domotex is Flooring Deluxe, which celebrates outstanding original design and the very best in traditional craftsmanship and contemporary innovation. A series of concept rooms featuring collaborations between global flooring brands and leading designers explore this theme by placing new products at the heart of imaginative and theatrical set designs.

Cones of wool lining the walls of Zurich-based designer Jörg Boner's scenography for Belgian Beaulieu International Group (top image) represent the industrialisation of carpet production, while a wolf’s head symbolises traditional, natural values.

German designer Sarah Illenberger’s set design for Swiss company Tisca-Tiara (above) showcases the company’s capacity for producing both fabrics and carpet, applying a striped textile to the wall that merges with the patterned carpet.

British designer Sebastian Wrong created a dynamic optical pattern to demonstrate the accuracy of the new digital printing technique developed by Danish brand Fletco Carpets (above). The busy pattern contrasts with a subtle gradient used on the carpet that covers the floor and walls. Subscribers can see our trend report on optical patterns here.

In the parquet and laminate section, Spanish designer Tomás Alonso used laminate floorboards from German firm Classen Holz Kontor to build a set of outdoor furniture and a cabin on stilts with printed green detailing that evokes the dichotomy between the natural origins of the material and the artificial processes used in laminate production.

The concept room voted the favourite by visitors will receive an award to be announced tomorrow. Domotex runs until 15 January.
