Glass installation by Marc Barreda

Monday 31 December 2012

This 2012 installation by glass artist Marc Barreda uses handmade water lenses and photographs of light projected through lenses to explore ideas of distorting and dismantling light.

The title of the piece, The Moment I Opened My Eyes I Began To Go Blind, is adapted from a lecture by Argentinian essayist and poet Jorge Luis Borges.

Barreda describes the work as "a scientific approach in exploring the sublime." Parallels can be drawn with our macro trend 21st Century Romance, which explores beauty as a design concept rooted by science, craft and nature; and two of our new materials directions, Immersive Light and Sci-Spiritual.
