HBL Book of the Week: Extremism by Tom Dixon

Wednesday 28 September 2011

Extremism by Tom Dixon (Design Research, 2011) sets out the London designer's manifesto that "given the current state of consumption, new stuff must have a superior reason for existing. Not only that, but the way we make and sell it must be redefined".

Edited by Laura Houseley, the book examines how this manifesto has been applied by Dixon to his products - using technology, craft, simplicity, colour (including the signature Tom Dixon fluorescent orange, and his extensive use of copper), weight, function and luminosity.

HBL loves: Dixon is a designer working at the forefront of his field. With his Flash Factory concepts and retail development The Dock in London, he has proved himself as a forward-thinker. Extremism sets out his next move.
