VERTIGO: THE PRE-HISTORY OF A HOTEL

Tuesday 1 February 2011

Vitra France has recently opened a contract furniture section specifically dedicated to the hotel and restaurant industry. Their latest project is VERTIGO.

The 5-star luxury hotel is set to open at Christmas 2012, with 32 rooms and suites, restaurants, a spa and a pool. Importantly, before this grand opening, the site will welcome seasonal restaurant spaces in order to create a rich pre-history for the hotel.

Located in Mégève on Mont d’Arbois, across from Mont Blanc, the space is orchestrated by Jérôme Foucaud, creator of the Murano and Kube hôtels. He invited Philippe di Méo to design the indoor and outdoor scenography this season.

There are two restaurants, a casual one featuring Vitra’s Eames chairs and Prouvé tables mixed with traditional furniture, and a gastronomic one showcasing Vitra’s Bouroullec’s Alcove sofas and Softshell armchairs. During the 11 weeks of the 2011 season, 11 Michelin chefs will be individually invited to create the menus in this stellar space.

Artemide lamps, cristal by Saint Louis and silver tableware by Puiforcat bring shine to the pristine surroundings, while carpeting by Tisca and Moroges offer textured calm and quiet underfoot.

Furthermore, the reading room/café/bar features Ikea PS and Ikea Stockholm furniture. Concept cocktails, such as the 'chaud-minée' (a play on the words 'chimney' and 'hot' in French) come in their own specially-designed containers.
